Sealing

The chewing surfaces of the molar teeth show deep grooves. On the bottom of these grooves bacteria can settle, undisturbed, as the bristles of the toothbrush do not reach this area. The goal of placing dental sealants is to achieve a homogenous, easy to clean surface by filling the grooves after cleaning them with a powder jet. Before placing the sealant the tooth is treated with ozone, as small bacterial pouches are often located under the grooves. In case any bacteria remained in places the ozone could not reach, the sealant’s transparency allows us to see small caries pockets and perform laser fluorescence with the Diagnodent. Prior to applying the sealant the tooth is examined with the Diagnodent-Laser in regard to its suitability for sealing. During this procedure the hard tooth substance will not be damaged.
