Splinting

The Etruscans already splinted their teeth over 3000 years ago, by binding loose teeth to fixed teeth with a golden wire. Today, more elegant methods are available. After we have excluded inflammation of the tooth and the periodontal apparatus and confirmed that the tooth is not stressed due to chewing forces, we connect fixed and loose teeth with a fibreglass splint. This is simply bonded onto the teeth fixed and allows, through a slight flexibility, small movements of the teeth. The splint is tooth-coloured and therefore not noticeable. The loose teeth can in some cases become fixed so they do not require a further splint.
